Alert Alert Alert Scammers Stealing Closing Money From BUYERS
If you, or anyone you know, is in the process of buying a house, you need to read this ALERT.
Scammers have worked a system to hack Real Estate Agency emails and are monitoring closings on these email accounts.
These scammers are waiting until the Buyer has been scheduled for closing and is awaiting final money totals for the purchase to provide for settlement.
The scammers jump in at this point, using the Real Estate Representative account, and contact the Buyers posing as the Real Estate Rep in an email. The scammers then state in the email how much money is needed for closing and where to Wire the funds.
The Account for the Wire is the Scammers Account and they STEAL the money right out from under the Buyers.
In order to avoid this SCAM, don't wire any money based on an email only, no matter who it is from or how official it looks.
Contact directly the Real Estate Representative and also the Title Company or Closing Agent for your purchase. Verify directly with them over the phone the funds needed for closing and any account numbers needed if you are wiring the funds for closing.
Hope this Helps.
